Do I Need to Speak Spanish for My Child to Attend Casita Azul?
One of the most common questions we get from families while touring our campuses is some version of: "We don't speak Spanish at home. Will we be able to communicate with your teachers?" The short answer is a resounding yes. In fact, families like yours are exactly who Casita Azul was built for.
Spanish immersion means your child spends their day surrounded by Spanish, the way children naturally absorb language: through songs, stories, play, and everyday routines with a teacher who speaks to them warmly and consistently in Spanish. Whether your family speaks English at home, another language entirely, or is just beginning to explore bilingualism, your child is immersed in Spanish all day, every day, with no homework required from you.
Looping Makes the Difference
Because our teachers stay with the same group of children year after year (a practice called looping), your child will build a real relationship with the person guiding their Spanish learning. That consistency, not a parent's own Spanish ability, is what turns immersion into lasting fluency. Families often tell us that watching their child come home singing songs in Spanish, or correcting mom and dad's pronunciation, becomes one of their favorite parts of the Casita Azul experience.
We’ll Help You Stay Connected, In Your Language
We know that as a parent, staying informed about your child's day matters just as much as what happens in the classroom. That's why we use Brightwheel to send photos, updates, and messages throughout the day, with built-in translation so every family gets updates in the language that's easiest for them. You'll never feel left out of the loop just because the classroom is in Spanish.
Some of our families are raising children who already hear Spanish from parents or grandparents and want to keep that heritage strong. Others are giving their child a second language as a brand-new gift. All are welcome, celebrated, and supported at Casita Azul. Our community is one where culture is part of daily life, not just something we mark on a calendar.
The best way to understand how Spanish immersion works for English-speaking families is to visit in person. Schedule a tour at our Hillsboro or Beaverton campus and see our caring schools in action, hear the Spanish filling the room, and meet the teachers who will be part of your child's story for years to come. We can’t wait to welcome you!
About Casita Azul
Casita Azul is a family-founded, employee-owned Spanish-immersion school serving children from infancy through preschool with campuses in Hillsboro, Tanasbourne, and Beaverton and a network of in-home casitas. Founded in 2018, Casita Azul creates a home away from home where children learn through play, culture, and connection and guided by caring teachers who stay: 99% of our educators return year after year, and looping keeps children with the same teacher as they grow. In September 2027, our journey extends through 5th grade with Spanish Horizons Academy, our K-5 expeditionary Spanish-immersion elementary school in Hillsboro. Get to know us at www.casitaazulpdx.com and on Facebook and Instagram. Enrollment is open year round.
